
Workforce Scholars
Key Dates:
Dallas College Workforce Scholars Start Date:
September 19-23: Student/parent information sessions conducted.
September 26: Students interview for positions.
October 10: Students informed of interview results. Selected students participate in Dallas College orientation and begin new hire paperwork.
October 31: Target start date - allows students to receive their first paycheck in December.
Students and Parents will complete and sign the Commitment Letter
Commitment Letters will be vetted by Dallas ISD Personnel
Eligible students will be referred to Dallas College for additional instructions
Eligibility Requirements:
Students who wish to participate in the Dallas College Workforce Scholars Program must meet the following requirements:
Have junior or senior standing AND be at least 16 years of age at the time the internship begins.
Have and maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale.
Enrolled in a Career and Technical Education course.
Complete the interest survey.
Job Opportunities:
Application Support Specialist
Works with various aspects of information technology systems. Responsible for analyzing and designing program/system improvements for software systems.
Facilities Maintenance Helper
An entry-level position that performs a variety of tasks requiring basic skills in assisting skilled craftsmen.
Facilities Maintenance Service Assistant
Performs a variety of semi-skilled repair and preventative maintenance work in one or more of the general building trades.
Facilities Maintenance Service Technician I
Under general supervision an intermediate level position that assists with the maintenance of assigned building locations and provides support in carrying out duties in various functional areas such as painting, carpentry, plumbing, moving furniture, etc.
Facilities Support Service Assistant I
An entry-level position that supports facility functions related to building services and includes receiving and shipping, mailroom duties and physical inventory functions. Support functions include reproduction and initial troubleshooting for assigned location and reporting problems to supervisor.
HVAC Apprentice
An entry-level position that performs preventive maintenance, and installs the HVAC system, diagnosing and repairing problems, or replacing components or the entire system.
HVAC Technician I
Leads troubleshooting, installation, and repair efforts on commercial grade heating, ventilating, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems. Leads the installation of components that require controls programming and linkage to the campus central control system.
Network Support Specialist I
Performs entry-level network support functions. Works with administrative/educational applications and network systems and assists with the development, implementation, and maintenance of the same. Works under close supervision with minimal latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
Quality Assurance Specialist I
Responsible for planning, coordinating, and implementing quality assurance activities by reviewing quality specifications and technical design documents to provide timely and meaningful feedback. Designs/implements tests, debugs, and defines corrective actions.
System Support Specialist I
An entry-level position is responsible for providing desktop computer support and first-level application and network troubleshooting for internal and external users.
